The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has strongly objected to the transfer and posting notification issued by the state government on April 13, 2025 Palm Sunday. The NPCC termed the move as insensitive, citing that the day holds religious significance for Christians, and demanded immediate issuance of a corrigendum.
In an official letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of Nagaland, NPCC President and Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), Mr. S. Supongmeren Jamir, stated that an earlier appeal was made on April 24, but no action has been taken so far.
The letter reads, “The NPCC hereby serves a seven-day ultimatum to your esteemed authority. If the corrigendum is not issued within the specified period, the party will be compelled to take its own course of action to ensure justice for the Christian Nagas.”
Copies of the letter have also been forwarded to the Home Commissioner of Nagaland, the Commissioner and Secretary of the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (P&AR), media outlets for public circulation, and the NPCC office for records.
The NPCC expressed that issuing administrative orders on a holy day such as Palm Sunday reflects disregard for the religious sentiments of the Christian community.
