State minister Shri Alo Libang said the Arunachal Pradesh government assembly has decided to cancel all ST certificates issued earlier to the offspring of tribal women married to non-tribals after a committee examined the cases.
Responding to a question by senior Congress MLA Lombo Tayeng, Minister Alo Libang said that the state government has notified the Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribes certificate issuance authority.
The minister said that the guidelines have provisions for cancellation, forfeiture, or cancellation of ST certificates issued to the ineligible person. If the authority issuing the document is satisfied that the scheduled tribe certificate has been obtained by any person by furnishing false information, misrepresenting any fact, or suppressing any material information, it shall be forfeited or can be canceled.
In the recent past, the issue of ST certificates has led to protests by several organizations including the All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) in different parts of the state.
