In a significant outreach effort under Operation Sadbhavana, the Indian Army today dedicated three developmental projects to the people of Imphal East district, reinforcing its commitment to welfare and nation-building in Manipur.
The General Officer Commanding of the Red Shield Division, Maj Gen SS Kartikeya, inaugurated the projects, which include a newly installed X-ray machine at the Public Health Centre (PHC) in Yaingangpokpi, a High Mast Light at the New Cannan village playground, and a Bakery Unit at Wungya village.
Each initiative serves a distinct purpose aimed at improving quality of life in the region. The X-ray facility at the PHC is expected to vastly improve medical access for locals, especially those from remote areas who earlier had to travel far for basic diagnostic services.
The installation of the High Mast Light will allow the community, especially youth, to engage in sporting and cultural activities well into the evening. Villagers expressed optimism that the playground will now become a vibrant hub of social life.
Meanwhile, the Bakery Unit in Wungya village is seen as a step towards economic empowerment, particularly for women. Designed to promote local entrepreneurship, the unit is expected to create sustainable livelihood opportunities and boost self-reliance in the village.
Speaking at the event, Maj Gen Kartikeya highlighted the importance of people-centric development in fostering trust between the Army and civilians. Projects like these may seem small in scale, but they carry the power to transform lives. The Army is committed to walking alongside the people in their journey of progress, he said.
The inauguration ceremonies witnessed enthusiastic participation from villagers, healthcare workers, and local leaders. The atmosphere was one of celebration and gratitude, with residents appreciating the Army’s continued efforts to support the community beyond security duties.
