Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor PVSM AVSM VM officially assumed command as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C) of the South Western Air Command (SWAC). The occasion was marked by a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the SWAC Headquarters in Gandhinagar, where Air Marshal Kapoor took the reins from his predecessor, Air Marshal Narmdeshwar Tiwari PVSM AVSM VM, who has now moved on to serve as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff.

Air Marshal Kapoor’s journey in the Indian Air Force (IAF) began when he graduated from the National Defence Academy in 1985, followed by his commissioning on 6 December 1986. Over the years, he has earned a reputation as a highly skilled fighter pilot, with over 3400 flying hours under his belt. He’s flown various combat and trainer aircraft, including all variants of the MiG-21 and MiG-29, marking him as one of the most experienced pilots in the IAF.
Apart from his flying prowess, Air Marshal Kapoor is also an accomplished strategist, having attended both the Defence Services Staff College and the National Defence College, shaping his leadership abilities and understanding of military operations at the highest level.
