A historic and red letter day for the people of Nagaland and the Seiyhama villagers, in particular, the first Naga Mircha (King Chilli) festival was held today 9th September 2022 at Seiyhama Village, Kohima.
This Naga Mircha (King Chilli) Festival is believed to create a significant development in the farming sector said the special guest of the event, President, NDPP (Nagaland Democratic Progressive Party) 11th Northern Angami II, Mr. Vibeilietuo Kets. He also said that this would create a significant development in the farming sector, however; he opined that villagers should be hard-working and should develop a brand name for the product produced in the village so that it will create more income generation. He said that the people should avail more value-added products in training so that they get more experience and generate income. Furthermore, he further stated that the farmers should create a market value and not be lazy, putting ideas and working hard to set an example for others.
A short speech was delivered by Mr Senka Jamir, District Horticulture Officer. He has said that the Naga farmers have developed a good way of producing Naga Mirchi, tagged with the Geographical Identification GI, and encouraged everyone to work hard as the demands are higher outside the state. He also expressed his appreciation to the village for adopting the horticulture crops and hopes that it will benefit more people in the future.
Mention may be made that the king chilli festival will be held annually, and the financial assistance is sponsored by the Department of Horticulture, Kohima. Lhoulalie Zumvu, Convenor, presented a PowerPoint on the purpose of the festival.
