On 6th May, 2022 special court have granted bail to Navneet Rana and her husband MLA Ravi Rana. The Rana couple was arrested on 23rd April by Khar police station officials for alleged offences of sedition and breach of harmony for announcing their intent to chant Hanuman Chalisa at the residence of Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackrey.
Earlier, the Rana was booked under sections 34 (criminal act done by several persons in furtheranceof common intention), and 153A (promoting enmity between different groups)of the Indian Panel Code (IPC), after they have announced their intensions of chanting Hanuman Chalisa. Though, the Ranas claimed that they had called off their plans to protest.
The court allowed their release on a bond of Rs 50,000. Their lawyers sought their release on provisional cash bail for two weeks till the surety can be arranged.
The Rana couple was produced before a holiday court after they were arrested on April 23. The court sent them to judicial custody till May 6. On Monday, the court had adjourned the order to Wednesday.
