The 7th Sumi Martyrs Day was celebrated today 28 December 2020 at the Martyr's Park, Sukhalu by a group of like-minded Citizens of Zunheboto along with members of Sumi Hoho, STH, SKK, ZSTH, NGO’s and GBs Association of Zunheboto Town. In the past, the event is marked with much significance with numerous Sumi people arriving from all walks of life to pay their reverence for the Martyr's, but this year the pandemic situation has compelled the organization to limit the delegation to a few.
Dr. Huskha Yepthomi former Sumi Hoho President, while applauding the endeavor of the like-minded Citizens of Zunheboto for organizing the Sumi Martyr's Day, reminded them that Sumi should never fail to observe two important events, the 4th of August (Sumi Patriots Day) and 28th December (Sumi Martyr's Day). He further stressed that the three brave souls who lie beneath the grave at the park stood as an epitome that Sumi Men folks shall never fail to defend the honor and dignity of their womenfolk's even if sacrificing their life matters. Their deeds shall not go in vain it will endure the sands of time.
Rev. Dr. Daniel Chishi, Pastor ZTSBC quoting with an example from the books of John 11:50 states that "Nor consider that is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perishes not." He said that, if it concerns a whole lot of people it is better for a single man to die. He offered prayers for the Martyrs and their families, which was followed by laying down of wreaths by different Sumi organizations. And thereafter, the Sumi Martyr's Day concluded with a candlelight memorial service at Centre Point Zunheboto.
