100 MBBS Seats & "Letter of Intent" Approved for 1st Nagaland Medical College

Minister Shri P Paiwang Konyak said that it is a great and historic day for the people of Nagaland to start a medical college after 60 years of statehood. The dream of a medical college in Nagaland has turned into a reality and that it was an absolute wish of the leaders, both past and present, and acknowledged the state's Chief Minister Shri Neiphiu Rio for his vision and leadership that medical college has come into reality.

In a significant development for the state-run Nagaland Medical College, it received a "letter of intent" from the National Medical Commission,  Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) on 18th April 2023 with approval of one hundred MBBS seats for the academic year 2023-2024.  This was announced by Shri P Paiwang Konyak, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland while addressing a joint press conference on 19th April 2023 in Kohima Nagaland.

Minister Shri Paiwang Konyak said that it is a great and historic day for the people of Nagaland to start a medical college after 60 years of statehood.  He said, 'The dream of a medical college in Nagaland has turned into a reality today' and added that it was an absolute wish of the leaders, both past and present, and acknowledged the state's Chief Minister Shri Neiphiu Rio for his vision and leadership that medical college has come into reality today.

Shri P Paiwang Konyak said that the department has received the letter of permission and letter of intent for the functioning of Nagaland Medical College on 18th April 2023 to be called Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (NIMSR) with hundred MBBS seats and they will send the acceptance letter within a day or two, and expect the permission letter in a week.

The minister also thanked the engineering wing and encouraged the contractors and engineering wing to complete the entire complex at the earliest so that the state can operate the medical college without any problem and MBBS with hundred seats as per LOP and LOI,  Civil work has been completed for the students who will join for the hundred MBBS seats, 'We will not have any problem when the students come' he said.

Shri P Paiwang Konyak also informed that by the end of May, they have to complete everything so that by the academic year of 2023 - 24 the college have to be functioning without any problem in the state and he is confident that the college will function from June to July and the teaching hospital, types of equipment and faculty are already now and we should not wait or delay, he said. 

It may be mentioned that the All India seat share is fifteen per cent and that of the State of Nagaland is eighty-five per cent, however, if the All India seats remain vacant then those seats will also fall to the State of Nagaland. (ANI)
