Miranda House leads from the front on strengthening connections with the North East region on research, innovation and entrepreneurship with an emphasis on the role of women. The college is setting up a North East Regional Research and Resource Centre (NERRRC) supported by the North Eastern Council, Shillong, Government of India. The establishment of the Centre commemorates the centenary year of the University of Delhi and 75 years of Miranda House. Apart from research activities, the Centre is establishing a community radio, skill development courses and incubation centres dedicated to the North Eastern region and North Eastern youth especially women in India. To amplify its voice and to strengthen its networking with the region, the NERRRC has organized its first Ideation Conclave on 14 September 2022 with Resident Commissioners of the eight North Eastern states and experts from the region to plan for its various activities. In addition, the Centre in collaboration with Her World India, a Digital Media Imitative has created an online platform dedicated to women engaging in different outreach programs including networking and skill development.
Principal of Miranda House, Professor Bijayalaxmi Nanda said "Based on the Honourable Prime Minister's vision of Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat", this Centre is a step towards promoting the culture, arts and skills of the region with a special focus on women. In Miranda House, about 400 students from the northeastern states are excelling in academics and other fields. We want to highlight the region in terms of its diversity and potential for innovation and entrepreneurship. The main focus is to bring about start-up initiatives for women and by women of the northeast. There will be a series of Ideation Conclaves and International Conferences to bring about wide-ranging consultation. "
The first in a series of Ideation Conclave has resident commissioners and other representatives from the region. Eminent personalities who shared their ideas in the conclave include Shri Robin Hibu, Special Commissioner of Police/ADG Delhi police, Shri Jyoti Kalash, Chief RC of Nagaland House New Delhi, Shri Ashwini Kumar Chand, RC of Sikkim house New Delhi, Shri LH Ngathingshim, DRC Manipur Bhavan New Delhi and Shri Devesh Tripathi Representative of Meghalaya house New Delhi, Prof. Rajni Abbi, Chairperson of Miranda House, Prof Dinabandhu Sahoo, former Director IBSD Manipur.
Rakhee Bakshee said that, "we at her world India wish to engage and support the skill and talent available in the northeastern region, visualize and create enabling space in media and start-ups, especially for women".
According to Prof. Abbi, the Procter University of Delhi and Chairperson of Governing Body Miranda House said that, "Prime Minister Mr Modi has said that "Northeast India will be an engine of India's growth in 21st century. NERRRC at Miranda House in Delhi University is an initiative toward skilling the youth, especially women from this region, in research innovation and entrepreneurship. It is a much-needed programme for enabling youth voices. This program also commemorates 100 yrs of Delhi University and 75 years of Miranda House in preparing students as citizens in the service to the nation."
North Eastern students of Miranda House said, "Establishment of NERRRC opens up new horizons and gives us opportunities. This centre will introduce cultures and traditions of the North-East that go beyond. We are excited and happy to be a part of the research centre and look forward to innovating and empowering ourselves with the knowledge.
According to Dr Bashabi Gupta, Coordinator NERRRC "This centre opens up different and significant prospects for research, innovation and entrepreneurship for our students at Miranda House and in the other colleges of Delhi University.
