Manipur government under the initiatives of war on drugs, thousands of acres of poppy plantations have been destroyed.
Manipur has seen an unprecedented rise in illicit poppy cultivation during the past years.
The cultivation of poppy plants, locally known as kaani, has taken over the hilly regions of the state populated by Schedule Tribes. As reported by Narcotic and Affairs Border (NAB), a unit under Manipur police, illicit poppy cultivation remains concentrated mainly in the hills districts of Ukhrul, Senapati, Kangpokpi, Kamjong, Churachandpur, and Tengnoupal.
Manipur government strikes on illegal poppy plantations has destroyed 110 acres of Poppy plantation by a combined team of Chandel Dist, 70 acres in UKHRUL, 10 acres in KANGPOKPI & 20 ACRES in CCPUR and 70 acres at Thawai Kuki range at the hill slope of Govok village.
The government will continue a similar drive across the State for Zero tolerance for any illicit drug-related activities.
