Covid-19: Top Five states with highest number of infections

India's tally of Covid-19 infections surged past 10.8 lakh cases after 38,902 new cases were recorded in the last 24 hours. So far, 26,864 deaths have been linked to the highly contagious illness.

India's tally of Covid-19 infections surged past 10.8 lakh cases after 38,902 new cases were recorded in the last 24 hours. So far, 26,864 deaths have been linked to the highly contagious illness. At present, there are 3,73,379 active cases while total recoveries went past 6.5 lakh. According to Union Health Ministry, India's Covid fatality rate is presently at 2.49 percent, one of the lowest in the world. However, despite multiple lockdowns and measures by central and state governments, India has become the third worst-hit country by the pandemic after the United States and Brazil. Here, we have enlisted five states with the highest number of Covid-19 infections

Maharashtra

Maharashtra continues to record highest number of Covid infections in the country. With the addition of 8,348 fresh cases, the total number of covid-19 infections in Maharashtra crossed 3 lakh on Saturday. The total count in the state stands at 3,00,937, including 1,23,377 active cases and 1,65,663 discharged, according to State Health Department. The state recorded 144 deaths in 24 hours taking the total death count to 11,596. Mumbai continues to be the epicentre of Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra. The city has recorded 100,350 cases and 5,650 deaths, but the rise in infections in the city has slowed down over the last two weeks.

Tamil Nadu

In the biggest single-day spike,Tamil Nadu's reported 4,807 new cases from different part of states. With this new addition, the infection count has gone up to 1,65,714. A total of 88 people succumbed to the illness, taking the corona-related death toll to 2,403. The state has ramped up the testing facility and examined as many as 48,195 samples, pushing the cumulative tally to 18,79,499, the state health department said.

Delhi

Delhi has reported a single-day jump of 1,475 cases, taking its tally of Covid-related infections to 1,21,582. This is the eighth consecutive day when more than 1,000 new Covid-19 infections have been reported in Delhi. With a recovery rate of 83.3 %, the National Capital has recorded recoveries of 1,01,274 coronavirus patients A total of 1,973 people got cured in the last 24 hours. It also reported 26 deaths, the lowest single-day Covid-19 fatality count since June 9.

Karnataka

Karnataka continues to emerge as a hotbed of covid 19 infections in the country. The state on Saturday logged 4,537 new Covid-19 cases and 93 deaths in the last 24 hours. With this, the death toll rose to 1,240 and the total number of cases has now touched 59,652.

Gujarat

Gujarat also recorded the highest single-day rise of 960 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total count to 47,476, state Health Department said. The number of fatalities rose by 19 taking the aggregate death tally to 2,127. Gujarat now has 11,344 active cases, it said, adding that the condition of 75 patients is critical. The state has so far witnessed 47,390 Covid-19 infections and the number of recoveries till Saturday stood at 34,005.
