In yet another instance of unprovoked aggression, the Pakistan Army resorted to arbitrary firing and heavy artillery shelling during the night of 06-07 May 2025 across the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) opposite Jammu & Kashmir. The indiscriminate assault resulted in the tragic loss of three innocent civilian lives and widespread panic in border villages.

According to official sources, the shelling began late in the night and continued into the early hours, targeting civilian areas without provocation. Mortars and artillery shells landed in several hamlets near the LoC, damaging homes and spreading fear among the local population. Emergency services and village defense committees were immediately activated.

The Indian Army responded with measured and proportionate force, targeting the Pakistani positions responsible for initiating the hostilities. Military officials confirmed that retaliatory action was swift and precise, aimed at silencing the enemy’s fire and safeguarding Indian territory and its people.

This is a blatant violation of the ceasefire understanding and a grave act of hostility,” said a senior defense official, adding that India remains committed to peace but will not tolerate harm to its citizens. Our forces are on high alert and are giving a befitting response.

The cross-border shelling is a grim reminder of Pakistan’s continuing disregard for peace along the LoC, despite multiple bilateral and international efforts to maintain calm. Over the past year, there has been a relative lull in ceasefire violations, but this latest episode underscores the volatility of the region.

Local authorities have begun evacuation of vulnerable families in affected villages and are providing relief and compensation to the families of the deceased. “We are working round the clock to ensure the safety and well-being of our border residents,” said a district official from Rajouri.

As tensions simmer along the LoC, calls are growing for international attention to Pakistans repeated violations and the need to hold it accountable for endangering civilian lives. India has reiterated that peace can only prevail when there is a mutual respect for sovereignty and ceasefire commitments.

India stands firm its response is resoluteits intent peacefuland its commitment to protect its people—unshakable.
