WHAT'S IN A NAME

The title has been taken from Shakespeare’s most tragic play “ Romio and Juliet”. It is an example of Soliloquy spoken by Juliet in Act-2, scene-ii. The name of thing doesn’t matter as much as the quality of thing. What’s in a name? - its essence remains the same regardless of what we call it.

In the play, Juliet is lamenting that her family forbids her to see Romeo because he is a Montague. But this line continues, A rose by any other name would smell as sweet, means that Romio is who he is, and Juliet loves him, and the fact that his name is Montague is not important to her. In fact, that is to say , names do not define who we are but rather our actions. Names were given to us from before we decided our beliefs, before our capability to express ourselves using words. This phrase means that external labels or titles given to you do not change your true essence. This truth can be allied to human existence also . The soul of every human being is eternal, immortal, unchanging, permanent truth, bliss, consciousness. In this journey of self-realization, one accumulates many memories , beliefs and false impressions and gets stuck in the illusion called life.
