Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist named Sham sofi was killed in an ongoing encounter at Awantipora tral area in Jammu and Kashmir. The gunfight between the terrorists and security forces was underway at Tilwani Mohalla in Tral area of Awantipora.
A police official said, Acting on specific inputs about the presence of terrorists in Tilwani Mohalla Waggad in the Tral area of Awantipora, security forces launched a block off and search operation there.

A militant was killed in the exchange of fire, the official said.
Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said, the slain terrorist has been identified as Sham Sofi who was a top Jaish-e-Mohammed commander.
On Kashmir Zone police's twitter handle,The IGP tweeted “Top JeM Commander #terrorist Sham Sofi killed in Tral #Encounter."
Five terrorists were eliminated in two other operations, while two other terrorists were killed earlier in two different operations in J & K districts.
