Vishwanath, a vegetable vendor in the APMC yard, had complained to the priest and others on the charge of conversion. He also said that he was mistreated in the church because he sang the prayer of the Hindus instead of singing the prayer of the Christians.
On October 17, in Hubli, Karnataka, activists of vishwa hindu parishad and bajrang dal sang hymns sitting in the premises of a church, protesting against the conversion campaign. As per the reports, Several men and women can be seen singing hymns with folded hands inside the Bairidevar koppa Church in Hubli.
At the time of demonstration, activists and BJP leaders also demanded the arrest of Pastor Somu Avaradhi. Bajrang Dal state convener Raghu Sakleshpora said, “A person named Vishwanath was taken to church for conversion. But, he went from the church to the police station and lodged a complaint against Pastor Somu and others. Later, our members gathered inside the church and started singing Hindu hymns to protest.
Apart from singing bhajans in the church, Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and BJP MLA Arvind Bellad also staged their protest at Navanagar police station on Sunday. He alleged that the police could not arrest the accused priest in the forced conversion case. Earlier, a large group of activists blocked the Hubli-Dharwad major road and the corridor dedicated to the Hubli-Dharwad Bus Rapid Transit System for one and a half hour.

Vishwanath said while talking to the reports that Somu started talking to him three months back. But, 6 days back Somu came to the house and said that if Vishwanath follows Christianity then his life will change. Vishwanath says, “Somu asked me and my family to attend the Sunday prayer, church. But there when I started singing the Hindu prayer, they started abusing me along with others present in the hall.”
The Huge protests by Hindu organizations in the church and police station, is being said that the arrest of the pastor has been done. The Commissioner of Police there said that investigation is going on in this matter. Only Somu has been arrested. So far there has been no complaint from the church.
