India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador TS Tirumurti said at the 'International Counter-Terrorism Action Conference 2022' organized by the 'Global Counter-Terrorism Council' on Tuesday that the perpetrators responsible for the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts in Pakistan were five- Star facilities are availed and they have got government protection. His indirect gesture was towards international criminal Dawood Ibrahim.
He further said that links between terrorism and organized crime between countries should be fully recognized and addressed vigorously. He said, 'We have seen that the syndicate of criminals responsible for the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts has not only been given government protection but is also enjoying five-star facilities.' It is being linked to Dawood Ibrahim, who is believed to be hiding in Pakistan.
Tirumurti, chairman of the United Nations Security Council's (UNSC) Counter-Terrorism Action Committee for 2022, said the UN sanctions systems, including the '1267 Al-Qaeda Sanctions Committee', are responsible for the financing of terrorism, preventing terrorist travel and access to arms to terrorists. Important for international efforts to rein in it.
"It is important that all sanctions systems established by the Council follow due process in their functioning and decision-making," the ambassador said. The decision-making process and the steps to list or delist terrorist organizations should be objective, prompt, authentic, evidence-based and transparent and should not lead to political and religious deliberations.
