On Wednesday, an expert committee have been appointed by supreme court to look into Pegasus snooping controversy. The scandal had allegedly compromised the privacy of institutions and individuals.

A bench comprising Justices Hima Kohli, Chief Justice N V Ramana and Surya Kant said the three-member committee will be headed by former top court judge RV Raveendran.

While pronouncing a judgment on a number of pleas, the top court said that since there has been no specific denial by Centre in the Pegasus snooping matter, the top court has 'no option but to accept the submissions of petitioner prima facie and appoint an expert committee whose function will be overseen by the top court'.

"There has only been a vague denial in a limited affidavit filed by Centre, which cannot be sufficient. Mere invocation of national security by State does not render court a mute spectator."

To probe the 'falsity' in the Pegasus row  is the reason the committee has been formed. Also, has been asked to 'discover the truth in the matte. The Right to Privacy breach needs to be probed and also highlighted the 'serious concern of foreign agency involvement by shriveling Indians,' the bench added.
