The Sangtam Union Kohima celebrated its fiftieth Golden Jubilee cum the Mungmung Festival at the Heritage Village, Kisama, on 3 September 2022, with Minister for Health and Family Welfare, S Pangyu Phom as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, S Pangyu Phom said that it was a remarkable day for the Sangtam tribe today as it coincides with two auspicious occasions creating a unique history. He said that such a beautiful and
remarkable day is being blessed because of the unity amongst the Sangtams, the spirit of togetherness and belongingness and sharing of each other's burdens and joy in every sphere has made us all witness this significant day in such a grand manner, he said. Pangyu also thanked the pioneers of the union for their vision of creating a beautiful history that has produced many officers, intellectuals, and leaders today, paving way for the Eastern Naga frontier and uplifting them through the grassroots.
The Health Minister further urged upon everyone to carry forward the letter in good spirit and keep alive the legacy beyond borders without "ism", and all hidden agendas are to unify and love first amongst the brothers and sisters of Sangtams all around the globe.
The Mungmung festival is one of the most important festivals of the Sangtams, Mungmung festival which means ‘togetherness forever’ is observed in the first week of September every year, and it stretches over six days. The main objective is to have a good harvest, and food grains, for which the villagers toil throughout the year.
Special songs and cultural presentations were the highlights of the programme.
