Political parties started working in full swing for the upcoming assembly elections in five states. He tried his best to ensure his victory. At the same time, BJP has released another list of candidates for the Punjab Assembly elections. There are 27 names in this list. The name of former Union Minister Vijay Sampla is also included in the new list. Vijay Sampla will contest from Phagwara assembly seat while National Commission for Minorities Chairman Iqbal Singh Lalpura will contest from Rupnagar.
This is the second list of BJP candidates in Punjab. In this list, both the Congress MLAs who left the party and joined BJP have got tickets. Fatehjung Bajwa from Batala and Harjot Kamal from Moga have been fielded. Harjit Grewal of BJP did not get ticket from Rajpura.
The BJP will contest 65 seats in the 117-member Punjab Assembly, while its two allies Punjab Lok Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal (United) will contest 37 and 15 seats, respectively. This is the first time after the 1997 assembly elections that the BJP is contesting in the state without its former ally Shiromani Akali Dal. Akali was earlier a constituent of the National Democratic Alliance. The SAD had snapped ties with the BJP following disagreements over the recently repealed agricultural laws.
Announcing the seat-sharing agreement in the capital on Monday, BJP chief JP Nadda along with Amarinder Singh of Punjab Lok Congress and Sukhdev Dhindsa of SAD Samyukta said the seat-sharing was done after detailed discussions. Nadda said the new alliance has been made simultaneously on the concerns of the three parties sharing about the country's security and stability in the state that shares its border with Pakistan.
