For the first time ever, President Ram Nath Kovind will escape from tradition and celebrate the Dussehra festival outside the national capital.

On friday, President Kovind, will celebrate Dussehra with soldiers of the Indian Army in Kargil's Drass area. He is on a two-day trip to Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir.

Kargil's Drass is known as “the Gateway to Ladakh”. It is famous for its tourist sites and high-altitude trekking routes. Also, it is a strategically symbolic military point, one where the Indian Army personnel have to brave the freezing temperatures and soaring altitudes all year long to guard the LoC.

Rashtrapati Bhavan Tweeted, "Jammu & Kashmir: President Ram Nath Kovind yesterday interacted with the officials and jawans of all ranks along with their families at the Northern Command, Udhampur."

As per the hindu calendar, Vijay Dashmi or Dusshera is celebrated on the 10th day after the nine long-days of Navratri festivities in the month of Ashvina. Navratri festival is celebrated differently in various parts of the country.

It is celebrated with great intensity and joy across India by burning Ravan in open fields to symbolise the victory of 'good' over 'evil'.
