PM Modi at the G20 summit: The Afghan region should be stopped from becoming a stronghold of terrorism

PM Narendra Modi at the G20 summit said that integrated international action based on UN Security Council Resolution 2593 is necessary to improve the situation in Afghanistan.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on the international community to ensure that the Afghan region does not become a source of terrorism and extremism. He called for concerted global efforts to bring about the desired change in that country. PM Modi in his digital address at the G20 summit in Afghanistan also stressed on the need for immediate and uninterrupted humanitarian aid to Afghan citizens and the need for inclusive governance in that country.

Took part in the G20 summit regarding Afghanistan. Emphasizing on preventing the Afghan region from becoming a source of radicalization and terrorism. It also called for immediate and uninterrupted humanitarian aid to Afghan citizens and for inclusive governance, PM Modi tweeted.

PM Modi said, integrated international action based on UN Security Council Resolution 2593 is necessary to improve the situation in Afghanistan.

The UN Security Council's resolution adopted on 30th August under India's presidency mentions the need to uphold human rights in Afghanistan. It called for that Afghan territory should not be used for terrorism and that a political solution should be found through dialogue to resolve the crisis.

As per External Affairs Ministry, PM Modi said that every Indian understands the suffering of the Afghan people facing hunger and malnutrition. He stressed that the international community must ensure that Afghanistan receives immediate and uninterrupted humanitarian assistance.

"The prime minister also underscored the need to ensure that the Afghan region does not become a source of extremism and terrorism, regionally or globally," the foreign ministry said in a statement.

As per the Ministry of External Affairs, Modi also advocated intensifying the joint fight against extremism, terrorism and drug and arms smugglers in the region. In order to preserve the socio-economic gains of the last 20 years and to curb the spread of extremist ideology, the Prime Minister advocated an inclusive administration in Afghanistan, including women and minorities, it said.

"They expressed support for the important role of the United Nations in Afghanistan and called for the G20's renewed support for the message contained in UN Security Council Resolution 2593 on Afghanistan," the foreign ministry said. PM Modi called on the international community for a unified international response, without which it would be difficult to bring about the desired change in the situation in Afghanistan.
