Omicron Variant: PM Modi holds a meet on corona situation, along with vaccination process

The five states that reported the highest number of cases in Saturday's latest tally are followed by Kerala with 4,677 cases, Mizoram with 359, Tamil Nadu with 746, Karnataka with 402 and West Bengal with 710 cases.

On Saturday, PM Modi will hold an important meeting on the status of Covid-19 situation along with vaccination in India. The top Officials including Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhusan, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister PK Mishra, NITI Aayog Member Dr. VK Paul and Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba will attend the meeting.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has appealed to PM Modi to stop flights from countries that are affected by a new variant of the corona virus, Omicron. The tweet comes just ahead of PM Modi's meeting to review the overall COVID-19 situation and the ongoing vaccination campaign.

Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, "I urge Hon'ble PM to stop flights from those countries which are affected by the new version. Our country has recovered from Corona with great difficulty. We do everything possible to prevent this new version from entering India."

Also, Several countries have suspended travel to South African countries, including the 27-nation European Union, where the Omicron variant is believed to have emerged. The first case was detected in Botswana on November 9 and has spread to Israel, Hong Kong and Belgium.

India recorded 8,318 new Covid-19 cases and 465 deaths in the last 24 hours. This is 21.1 per cent lower than Friday morning's record. India's cumulative caseload now stands at 3,45,63,749.

In the last 24 hours, India also reported 465 Covid deaths, taking the country's Covid toll to 4,67,933. At present, there are 1,07,019 active COVID-19 cases in India. Also, let us tell you that India gave 73,58,017 doses of Covid vaccine in the last 24 hours. The total number of doses administered so far in India is 1,21,06,58,262.
