On Tuesday, police arrested the son of a Congress MLA Karan Morwal, from Madhya Pradesh. An official said, he was absconding for over six months after a woman lodged a complaint of rape case against him. Morwal was on the run for the past few months and was expected that he could have escaped to Nepal. As per the officials, he was held during the early hours of Tuesday and has been locked in Mahila Thana in Indore.
Also, a reward of Rs. 25,000 on arrest of Morwal was announced by the police.
This year in April, the victim had filed a complaint against the Congress leader’s son. The incident took place on February 14, according to the woman. She said that the accused came to Indore and he took her to a hotel, where she fell unconscious after drinking something that Morwal had offered. Also, the complaint alleged that he raped her on the pretext of marrying her.
The police questioned the accused's younger brother Shivam on October 19 as they suspected he was aware of his brother's hideout, the officials said.
The charges were filed against him in the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 376 (rape), 376 (2) J, 506 (criminal intimidation) , 376(2)N (rape for more than one time) and 294 (obscene act at public places).
