The Indian Army organized an Ex-Servicemen Rally today in Lam, Nowshera, as part of its continuous dedication to the welfare of veterans, Veer Naris, and their families. The occasion took place at the Shaheedgarh War Memorial, where the General Officer Commanding (GOC) led a wreath-laying ceremony to commemorate soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation. The event, attended by over 486 participants, provided a forum to address veterans' concerns and share valuable information regarding welfare initiatives.
The rally offered a variety of assistance services, with dedicated booths to settle pension issues, edit service records, and guide attendees on accessing benefits. Civil administration and bank officials were also present to help facilitate the process, ensuring that veterans and their families received prompt support.
A major highlight of the rally was the recognition of Veer Naris, gallantry awardees, and revered civilians for their outstanding contributions. Among those honored were Mr. Basant Singh, a former Bal Sainik who fought alongside Mohd Usman during the 1947-48 Indo-Pak War, and Mr. Bachittar Singh, who courageously killed a terrorist in 2000 as a member of the Village Defence Committee (VDC) in Qila Darhal. The Veer Naris, who endured enormous personal loss, were also presented with mementos as a gesture of gratitude for their resilience and sacrifices.
The rally also featured a medical camp where Army doctors provided free consultations and distributed essential medicines. Cultural performances by local students added a lively and engaging atmosphere to the event, displaying the vibrant local culture.
In his speech, the General Officer Commanding expressed sincere gratitude to the veterans and their families, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to the nation. He highlighted the Army’s continued support for ex-servicemen and reiterated that such occasions serve to strengthen the bond between the military and its veteran community.
The rally served as a reminder of the Army’s continuous commitment to its veterans, reaffirming its dedication to their welfare and the respect they so richly deserve. The occasion celebrated the legacy of those who served and sacrificed for the nation. (PR)
