The issue came to light following the release of the fourth list of standardized geographical names by the Chinese Ministry, which included 30 new names for areas within what China refers to as Zangnan, corresponding to Arunachal Pradesh. India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar minced no words in condemning China's actions by stating, "China is still trying to rename places in Arunachal Pradesh. Arunachal West MP and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju echoed similar sentiments, denouncing China's renaming bid as illegal and emphasizing that such actions will not alter historical facts or the ground reality. The opposition Congress party also joined the chorus of criticism, with its president, Mallikarjun Kharge, condemning China's actions and urging the BJP-led Central government to take a firm stance.
