In a firm and resolute response to China's recent actions of renaming places in Arunachal Pradesh, India has vehemently rejected what it termed as "senseless attempts" by Beijing. The Ministry of External Affairs reiterated that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India and that China's efforts to rename places within the region will not alter this reality.
The issue came to light following the release of the fourth list of standardized geographical names by the Chinese Ministry, which included 30 new names for areas within what China refers to as Zangnan, corresponding to Arunachal Pradesh. This move has exacerbated tensions between the two Asian giants, with India firmly asserting its sovereignty over the northeastern state.
India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar minced no words in condemning China's actions by stating, "China is still trying to rename places in Arunachal Pradesh. But changing names won't make it theirs. Arunachal Pradesh belongs to India, and it will stay that way." His remarks underline India's unwavering stance on the issue and its commitment to safeguarding its territorial integrity.
Arunachal West MP and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju echoed similar sentiments, denouncing China's renaming bid as illegal and emphasizing that such actions will not alter historical facts or the ground reality. Rijiju's strong condemnation underscores the unified position of the Indian government against China's territorial assertions.
The opposition Congress party also joined the chorus of criticism, with its president, Mallikarjun Kharge, condemning China's actions and urging the BJP-led Central government to take a firm stance. Kharge's remarks reflect bipartisan concern over China's provocative actions and the need for a robust response from India.
China's renaming of places in Arunachal Pradesh has long been a contentious issue between the two neighboring countries. However, India's unequivocal rejection of China's attempts underscores its determination to uphold its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
As tensions persist between India and China over the border dispute, the latest episode of renaming places in Arunachal Pradesh serves as yet another flashpoint in the complex relationship between the two Asian powers. Despite diplomatic efforts to ease tensions, the underlying territorial disputes continue to strain bilateral relations, raising concerns about the potential for further escalation in the region.
