Following a statement by Nagaland-based political party Rising People's Party, the ED's action was seen as "a turning point in the history of the state". A shocking revelation was made by a newspaper agency, which claimed that, in February, four contractors of Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and a special assistant were allegedly summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning in connection with the Nagaland High Court building scam.
Five of them received a summons from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in February under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. The matter came to light in April, but the reason for summoning by the ED was not revealed.
Enforcement Directorate (ED) sources revealed that the five were called for questioning in connection with an alleged scam involving the misappropriation of funds by government officials and contractors during the construction of the new High Court complex in Nagaland's capital Kohima.
Gauhati High Court advocate confirmed that the ED case pertains to the alleged Nagaland High Court construction scam.
According to sources, the five had sought interim protection from the Gauhati High Court against the ED's summons, but the court rejected the "interim prayer" and listed the matter for May 9.
