The Battle of Garibpur in the 1971 war is another example where an infantry battalion of the Indian Army with only 14 PT-76 tanks was able to inflict heavy losses on a large brigade of Pakistani security forces.

During the Battle of Garibpur, several Pakistani M24 Chaffee tanks were destroyed. The OT-62 Topaz armored vehicle also played an important role during the 1971 war. It was led by Major Ravi Kumar of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment during Wednesday's parade. The 75/24 Pack Howitzer was the first indigenously developed mountain gun.
