The institute has said that Namibia's decision is not based on any scientific evidence or research. South African regulator SAHPRA has decided not to allow the emergency use of Sputnik-V in its country. Behind this, the drug regulator has said that some research suggests that Sputnik-V is an adenovirus type 5 vector in the mother, the use of which increases the risk of HIV in men.
The Namibian Health Ministry has issued a statement saying that their decision to stop using the Russian vaccine was made after concerns emerged that men taking Sputnik V may have a higher risk of contracting HIV.
