CCTV installation in all 83 PS in Nagaland is a milestone of Police Modernisation: CM Rio

Shri Neiphiu Rio thanked the Government of India for sanctioning 3.83 crore rupees for the installation of the CCTV in all 83 police stations in the state and mentioned that the state will be communicating everything which will be monitored by the district Headquarters.

Chief Minister of Nagaland Shri Neiphiu Rio on Wednesday inaugurated the CCTV installation at Police Stations under Kohima District, at a programme held at one of the oldest police stations,  the North Police Station, Kohima. 

Addressing the Police officials Shri Neiphiu Rio congratulated the police department headed by the DGP and the Home Department for the milestone achieved. Shri Neiphiu Rio thanked the Government of India for sanctioning 3.83 crore rupees for the installation of the CCTV in all 83 police stations in the state and mentioned that the state will be communicating everything which will be monitored by the district Headquarters. "This is a milestone in the modernisation of police", Rio said. He said that the installations of CCTVs will bring trust to the people in general, as the news of people tend to fear the police for the atrocities and excessiveness in the police custody will be transparent in this way, he said.  

While talking on the drug menace in the state, Shri Neiphiu Rio informed that the Cabinet will take its stand in its meeting on Thursday to officially declare the fight against drugs and that the government will support all its endeavour for the police department and hopes that the CCTV in all Police stations will bring a new change to the attitude of both police and the civilian. 

Delivering a short speech, Nagaland, Deputy Chief Minister, of Home and Border Affairs, Shri Y Patton said that the CCTV installation today is a milestone in the commitment to transparency, security and upholding of the fundamental rights of the citizens. He said that the State Nagaland, adhering to the Supreme Court's directive on second December 2020 on the installation of sixteen CCTV cameras in each of the seven police stations of Kohima district, should be seen as steps that prioritize the safety and rights of every citizen as stipulated under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution. The Deputy Chief Minister also acknowledged the Chief Minister for his support in bringing about landmark changes ensuring the protection and service of its people. 

Earlier, a welcome speech was delivered by the Director General of Police in Nagaland, Shri Rupin Sharma. (ANI)
