In a spectacular showcase of unity and camaraderie, the 1st INTER-ETHNIC Community Tug of War cum Food Festival took place at DDSC Stadium in Dimapur, Nagaland on January 30, 2024.
The event was organized by the Western Chakhesang Youth Organisation in collaboration with the Nagaland Tug of War Association to bring together diverse communities under the theme, "Oneness on the rope for peace."
The inaugural ceremony saw Dr. Er Vekho Swuro, President of BJP Phek District and President of Nagaland Tug of War, delivering a warm welcome address and Shri .S.Keoshu Yimchunger as the Chief Whistle, while Major Gen.Vikas Lakhera, Sena Medal, IGAR(North) Kohima, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. The event was further adorned by the presence of Mr. Yungan Konyak, recognized as the Tallest Man in Nagaland, and mr. Zt. Slingshot, Mr. Moko Koza made guest appearances.
The highlight of the festival was the 1st Inter-Ethnic Community Tug Of War Championship, where teams from different communities showcased their strength and spirit. The Chakhesang Community emerged victorious, claiming the championship and a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh. The Zeliang Community, displaying commendable sportsmanship, secured the runner-up position and received a cash prize of Rs. 30,000.
The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm and a sense of community as participants and spectators alike celebrated the cultural diversity and harmony that prevailed throughout the event. The festival not only provided a platform for friendly competition but also served as a testament to the shared values and unity among Nagaland's various ethnic groups.
The presence of distinguished figures such as Major Gen.Vikas Lakhera, along with local personalities like Mr. Yungan Konya, added a touch of prestige to the occasion. The successful culmination of the 1st INTER-ETHNIC Community Tug of War cum Food Festival marked a significant milestone in fostering understanding and solidarity among the people of Nagaland.
