The recently concluded elections in Arunachal Pradesh have left an indelible mark on the political landscape of the state, with a staggering 143 candidates from various parties vying for seats in the member legislative assembly constituency and 14 candidates competing in the member of parliamentarena.

During the period spanning from April 6th to May 7th, 2024, I was stationed at Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh and I witnessed a seismic shift as the state became the epicenter of a momentous electoral contest.

The elections, held on April 19, 2024, saw a fresh repoll in four districts of Arunachal Pradesh on April 24, 2024, for the member of the legislative assembly, namely; East Kameng, KurungKumey, Upper Subansiri, and Siang. These repolls were conducted in specific polling stations to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.

The elections were characterized by spirited campaigns and intense rivalries, particularly in the state's two parliamentary seats: West Arunachal Pradesh and East Arunachal Pradesh. In the West constituency, the clash between Union Cabinet Minister Kiren Rijiju and former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki dominated the headlines, while the East constituency witnessed a fierce contest between seating MP Tapir Gao and BosiramSiram, representing the BJP and Congress respectively.

The member of legislative assembly elections saw a diverse array of parties vying for supremacy. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) asserted its dominance by clinching 10 seats uncontested during the nomination phase. However, other prominent parties such as the Indian National Congress, National People's Party, National Congress Party (Ajit Pawar), People's Party of Arunachal, and Arunachal Democratic Party, LJP along with a significant contingent of independent candidates, ensured a heated battle for the remaining 40 assembly seats.

The nominations by parties reflected the competitive nature of the elections, with BJP leading with 60 nominations followed by the Indian National Congress with 19, the National People's Party with 21, the National Congress Party (Ajit Pawar) with 14, People's Party of Arunachal with 11, Arunachal Democratic Party with 4 and LJP with 1 respectively. Independent candidates also made a significant presence with 13 nominations.

As the dust settles and the results are tallied, the stage is set for a new chapter in the governance of Arunachal Pradesh, guided by the mandate of its people. The results, slated to be declared on June 2, 2024, will undoubtedly shape the destiny of the state for years to come.

Stay tuned with Sudarshan News for updates as the electoral saga unfolds, heralding a new era in Arunachal Pradesh's political trajectory.
